What We Do

We are not your average bakery. As the name suggests, the bakery operates as a worker co-op. This means the principles of cooperation, mutual aid, solidarity and equity between members, employees, and the community are inherent to our values.

The co-op lives into its values by supporting sustainability, organic & local farming, and international fair trade practices. It is a café, a word to describe a nice place with a welcoming environment where family or friends meet for coffee or a warm beverage with a delicious bite of food. As a bakery, it makes loaves of bread, pastries and other delicious foods to feed the soul and share with family and friends. Put together, the name represents the ethos of the Kootenay Bakery Cafe’ Cooperative.

The Kootenay Bakery Cafe’ Cooperative offers over 300 fresh, nutritious, flavour-filled products. Prepared and baked on-site, they are made primarily with certified organic ingredients, many sourced from local suppliers and farmers. KBCC is committed to producing food encompassing various dietary needs. Whether vegan, gluten-free, dairy-free or egg-free, raw food, in-house cured meats, grass-fed BC beef and organic chicken, the bakery has something for everyone. The Kootenay Bakery Cafe’ Cooperative also supplies its products to local restaurants and stores.
